    Facing bust of the Virgin Mary, orans.
    The Theotokos (the Mother of God), that is the Virgin Mary, makes her first appearance on coins with this issue. The title "Theotokos" was solemnly granted to Mary at the Council of Ephesus in 431 when Christological dogma was proclaimed.
