Description
Maker and age: This miniature creamer or jug has the pink overglaze lion and crown mark of England's iconic Royal Doulton that was in use between 1901 and 1922.
Design
: The jug features 4 sailors on a cobblestone waterfront, three on one side and the 4th on the other. In the distance, ships sit in the harbor.
The letters JX appear to the left of the mark in green, possibly a painter's mark.
Condition
: The jug is in overall excellent condition with no chips, nicks, scratches, stains or repairs. There is embedded dirt on the base and several dark marks, including a faint dark line across the ships that does not appear to be a crack, but it might be. It's shown in the photo with the red arrow. Because the jug is so small, it appears more prominent in the photos. It is hard to see without a magnifying glass.
Size
: The jug is 2 3/8 inches tall and 2 3/8 inches wide between the tip of the spout and the far end of the handle. It weighs a mere 1.6 ounces.
Though they may exist, no other examples of this jug were found in an extensive online search. It would be a great acquisition for a serious Royal Doulton collector.
Please check all the photos very carefully - they are an important part of the description.
