This auction is for what we believe to be a beautiful antique porcelain china Sampson Bridgwood & Son SB & Son Anchor Pottery large double-handled hand painted gilded sugar bowl with lid. The bottom of the bowl is marked S.B. & SON and also has an anchor logo. From what we learned online, Samuel Bridgwood established his works circa 1795 in Stoke-On-Trent, Staffordshire, England and by 1805 the firm was listed as Samuel Bridgwood & Son (Sampson). The works were passed onto Sampson and in 1853 Sampson Bridgwood & Son took over the Anchor Pottery. We are unsure of the items age but believe it dates back to some time between 1860-1890. The bottom of the bowl is marked S.B. & SON The item has a hand painted floral gilt design on both sides as well as gilded lines and embellishments. The item also has some raised designs and/or patterns. The bowl appears to be free of any cracks, breaks, or repairs, but one of the two little pointed ends on the lid handle is broken off and missing. Bowl and lid both have scratches, some heavily crazed areas, some small chips along the bottom rim and inner top rim, aging, discoloration, dirty and/or stained areas, general wear, and some fading/wear to the gilded accents throughout. The item measures roughly 7 1/4” in height including the lid and 5 5/8” without the lid. It measures roughly 6 1/4” from handle to handle and weighs roughly 1 lb 6.6 oz. This beautiful antique porcelain china Sampson Bridgwood & Son SB & Son Anchor Pottery large double-handled hand painted gilded sugar bowl with lid is sure to be a nice addition to your collection. We do our best to properly describe an item, but please take a close look at the pictures to assess condition (mouse over to zoom, click to enlarge).
