WE OFFER HERE A SCARCE ITEM ORIGINATING AT THE NORTH CHAUTAUQUA CELEBRATION HELD EACH SUMMER ON THE SHORES OF DEVILS LAKE NORTH DAKOTA FROM 1892 UNTIL 1929. THE SCENE ON THIS PAPERWEIGHT SHOWS A LINE OF FOLKS WAITING FOR A RIDE ON CAPTAIN HEERMAN'S MINNIE H STEAMBOAT DURING AN EARLY CELEBRATION AS THE BOAT WAS BEACHED AND NO LONGER SAILED AFTER THE 1908 SEASON OF OPERATION. AS CAN BE SEEN ON THE SIDE OF THE BOAT IT CARRIED MAIL SO A VARIETY OF SETTLEMENTS LOCATED AROUND THE LARGE LAKE DURING THE LATE 1880 TO EARLY 20th CENTURY PERIOD. IT WAS BUILT ON THE SHORE OF DEVILS LAKE DURING THE FALL AND WINTER OF 1882-1883 AND MET THE FIRST RAILROAD LOCOMOTIVE TO ARRIVE IN CREEL CITY (NOW DEVILS LAKE) IN 1883! FEW OF THESE SURVIVE - THIS ONE HAS A FEW KNICKS AS CAN BE SEEN IN OUR PICS - THE IMAGE IS MUCH CLEARER THAN CAN BE SEEN IN OUR PICS AS THE SCANNER GOES THROUGH A THICK ONE INCH OF GLASS TO PRODUCE WHAT YOU SEE. THE SHIPPING WEIGHT IS OVER A POUND SO WE MUST CHARGE FOR A USPS PRIORITY MAIL BOX DELIVERY OF .75. TAKE A LOOK - SHE'S A GREAT OLD SURVIVOR AND WOULD MAKE A NICE CHRISTMAS GIFT FOR ANY NORTH DAKOTA HISTORY LOVER!
