Description
Gold solidus of Constans II & Constantine IV, 641-668 AD, Byzantine, Sear 962, 4.3-4.4 gms, 21 mm diameter. The obverse shows a bust of Constans with a long beard, and bust of Constantine IV on the right, smaller and no beard. Both wearing crowns with cross and Constans with a plume. Between them is a cross. The legend on the obverse is only partly visible due to the weak/uneven strike on the left side, but the last half of his name is clearly visible. The reverse shows a long cross on a globus between facing, standing figures of Heraclius on the left and Tiberius on the right, both beardless, wearing a crown & chlamys, holding globus crucifer. "VICTORIA AVGY--", is around the border, with "CONOB" in exergue. On the reverse, to the left of the cross, are three small, fine line scratches, one above the other. The is a genuine original coin not a copy, replica or reproduction.
