Byzantine lead seal of N. sebastoswith the depiction of the Mother of God Vlachernitissa (13th c.)
A rare, possibly unpublished, seal with high historical interest!

Mother of God standing facial on a dais in "Vlachernitissa" type, nimbate, orans, wearing maphorion and chiton, having Jesus Christ as child on her chest in a medallion, sigla in the field, M

Condition: Open across the channel on rev., otherwise about Very Fine. Uncleaned with attractive natural tan patina.
A nice piece, with historical importance, acquired in a European auction.
