    Description

Many thanks to the very kind and knowledgeable Charmonas for helping enormously with the identification of this Byzantine Lead Seal of George, a 6th-8th c., official, 2 Cross Monograms, 25mm, 12.5g., ex-Classical Numismatic Group (CNG).
Obverse: usual invocative monogram inscribed in the corners, ΘΕΟΤΟΚΕ ΒΟΗΘΕΙ ΤΩ ΔΟΥΛΩ CΟV (Mother of God help your servant).
Reverse: cruciform monogram reading ΓΕΩΡΓΙΟΥ (George), office/dignity inscribed in the corners (looks like K M and T to me, but I am unsure of the interpretation of the corresponding office/station).
Dumbarton Oaks has several similar seals on their excellent web site attributed to George (6th/7th century), though none are identical to this example with two cruciform monograms.
