Description
Offered for sale is a stunning antique historical dark blue transferware sugar bowl manufactured in Staffordshire, England during the early 1800s. The sugar bowl features a view of George Washington with his horse at Mt. Vernon. The sugar bowl is not marked, and overall it stands about 5 7/8" tall to the tip of the finial while measuring approximately 7" in length from handle to handle. The overall condition of the sugar bowl is excellent. This piece came out of my personal collection, so be assured that it is a top quality piece! The base is very clean and it has no chips, cracks, or areas of restoration other than a small chip to the inner flange where the lid rests and several
scattered areas on the handle, top rim, shoulder, and body
where there are tiny glaze flecks. (These are minute and only pointed out for clarity.) The white earthenware is nice and white and the blue color is deep with nice contrast. The glaze is glossy with fine consistent crazing on the bottom only and there are minimal scratches or wear to the surface or interior. The lid has no chips or cracks, but it has had restoration to the finial, 3 corners, edges, and underside. It is the correct matching lid in regard to pattern and it is a sugar bowl lid. This is a beautiful piece that would be a nice addition to any collection or home! Please be sure to check out my other auctions for more great items!
