    On February 23, 1976, the U.S. Postal Service issued a sheet of 50 different
    American State Flags
    gummed 13¢ stamps in
    Washington, DC and at each of the 50 state capitols - in observance of the American Bicentennial. The stamps were designed by Walt Reed.
    Each stamp features the name of the state oriented vertically to the right of the centered state flag, the 13¢ denomination over “USA” to the left of the flag, and the Bicentennial logo with the phrase “BICENTENNIAL ERA 1776-1976” under the flag.
