  • Condition: Darkened areas of the obverse surface demonstrate high point areas of rub wear from an unknown source. This condition history prevents the coin from exhibiting a brilliant uncirculated surface. This is a tough date with extremely rare choice examples. Description

Offered for sale in this fixed price listing is an 1893 Philly, PCGS MS64, Liberty uncirculated double eagle .9675 ounce gold coin. The serial number 42009934 is the coin I ship. Darkened areas of the obverse surface demonstrate high point areas of rub wear from an unknown source. This condition history prevents the obverse side of this coin from exhibiting a brilliant uncirculated surface. This is a tough date with extremely rare choice examples. The reverse is much closer to brilliant uncirculated. America was coming out of the financial panic that lasted 20 years from 1872-1892. 1893 was no party either. Wages were very low by any measured cost of living standards. Life was hard and inconvenient for anyone descending from anything but a wealthy family tree. Finding choice Liberty double eagle gold coins that have a history of private ownership which avoided abuse from circulation handling are extremely tough to find in my experience.
This coin is undervalued by all the price guides for it's condition and rarity in my opinion. I also believe that the US Government and Fed sponsored manipulation of spot gold pricing prevents true price discovery of all gold coins in general but more specifically coins like this one are kept down by the grading services with their price guide structures. PCGS and NGC price guides use erroneous concepts like "survivor estimates", the monkey-hammered spot gold price and their knowledge limited to the coins they have seen to determine their prices. When auction prices are published they too create issues with weighted coin values placed on those very sales. There are buyer and seller commissions paid to the auction house which have no bearing on the coin's true value. These high commissions prevent true price discovery of coins. Buyers in coin auctions do not fairly represent the actual price of anything. Auctions of any length limit the value of what price a coin will realize AND by registration policies WHO CAN BID IN THE AUCTION. Newly added state sales tax collections imposed on ebay buyers without resale permits also have a negative impact on true price discovery for coins. I base my prices on everything I know and read about a particular coin. I take in much more data when I sell coins in fixed price listing on ebay. There is no true price discovery in the coin market unless buyer and seller are dealing directly with each other.
    Advisory:
There are only 142 1893 MS64 coins in the PCGS population.
There are only 8 1893 MS64+ coins in the PCGS population.
There is only 1 1893 MS65+ coin in the PCGS population.
There are 151 total PCGS MS64 to MS65+ graded 1893 Philly coins in the PCGS population. These numbers define condition rarity in my opinion.
The 1893 MS64 Liberty is an excellent investment hedge (in my opinion) against devalued paper money and deficit spending caused by weak kneed politicians with their frivolous money printing to infinity.
PCGS and NGC professional grading services take all coin surface and strike or die issues into consideration. Item photos and item advisories are provided to help assure and convince the buyer that this coin was graded properly. A grade is based on the evidence and the criteria of the item or case as presented. Buying any PCGS or NGC from my ebay store does not bring a guarantee that a coin could grade higher with crossover service or CAC submission. In fact, it does not even mean that the same coin could be submitted again in "raw" condition and receive the same grade from either grading service. I have a no return and no refund policy. We all trust the expert grading services to authenticate our coins and to grade them subjectively. Graded coins are the safe alternative to buying coins online. The only thing certain about grading is that the coin is authentic and that buyers and sellers have an arbiter in PCGS or NGC to decide the grade of the coin. I do not guarantee your satisfaction with any coin I offer for sale on ebay. People in general are too difficult and complex to provide a 100% customer satisfaction guarantee to now especially. Satisfaction is for you to find within yourself by the self-directed choice you make to buy any of my ebay items. Choose carefully and choose wisely with eyes wide open.
I do not include NGC population numbers because their coins crossover grade about 50% to PCGS in my personal experience.
ebay has enabled direct buyer to seller contact for my store listings. If you need to contact me please use 8:00 AM PST to 10:00 PM PST as your guide for call times.
    Payment methods:
Paypal is accepted for immediate payment.
    Shipping:
I ship this 6 ounce item by way of USPS Priority Air Mail Registered insured shipping and it takes however long it takes. This is contrary to anything ebay says about the USPS shipping time. Their estimated shipping time will be wrong by a lot because registered mail takes time and is not done on a first class shipping timetable.
