1850 Liberty Double Eagle NGC AU Details
Beautifully struck first year Liberty 20$ double eagle with PL surfaces and a bold strike on both the obverse and reverse. Take a close look at the high-resolution shots of the obverse and reverse showing off every single scratch and blemish this coin has acquired in the last 164 years. As you can see from the pictures the cleaning is extremely subtle and very hard to see even with a loop.
This coin had the privilege of being graded by Walt Armitage - he broke off from PCGS and moved to ICG and exclusively grades Pre-1900 examples. Walt is the ONLY grader in history to score a 98% on PCGS's grading test and is extremely well respected - he's considered one of the best graders out there. All my ancients listed had the privilege of being graded by him at ICG at one point or another -
This example was graded AU 58 by ICG and regraded in NGC holder.
